The Judgment Arcana and Its Meanings

The Judgment card is the twentieth major arcana and one of the most impactful among the 22 cards in this group. It is also one of the easiest to interpret due to the clarity of its messages when it appears in a reading. Unlike other cards, this one leaves no room for subjectivity from the tarot reader. Regardless of its position, its message is always decisive. The card heralds the presence of a significant change, the opening of a new path, and the seeker’s encounter with their true vocation. Judgment signifies the arrival of inevitable situations that lead to sudden outcomes.

    The Judgment Arcana

Interpretation of the Elements in the Deck

This card is represented by the winged Archangel Gabriel, symbolizing justice and forthcoming definitive actions. The angel is depicted surrounded by a cloud and sun rays illuminating the earth. The golden rays indicate spiritual presence and the ideas emanating from the angel, while the red rays symbolize divine love descending upon humanity. The rays’ brilliance reaches the entire earth, signifying that everyone must account for their actions.

On the ground, there are three naked people representing, in some cases, the innocence regained before the original sin, and in others, the impossibility of hiding the truth and thus the evaluation of all actions regardless of their nature.

The characters mentioned appear to be a young woman, an elderly woman, and a young, strong man emerging from the coffin at the center. This signifies that judgment will be positive but will extend to everyone, compelling all present to rise renewed and strengthened, as indicated by the man transformed from the coffin.
